D I Y / Minimal White Leather Top

I've been making some new garments last weekend which I couldn't find in stores. This minimalistic leather boxy top with a Céline feel and a Calvin Klein neckline was one of them and was incredibly easy to make. Here are the instructions!

•leather
•scissors
•needle and thread/sewing machine
•chalk

Trace one of your regular racer back tanktops on the back of your piece of leather with chalk. The leather has no stretch and will sit like a box around you once this top is done, so draw an outline of 5cm around the lines of the racerback tanktop that you traced. Add another 5 cm to every side of the back part of the top. Once you cut them out you should have two identical parts of which one is broader than the other (see picture). Sew everything together and make a little slit in the back so that your head can fit through. Done!

The top looks odd around the armpits....but you made me think of something. Minimalism would mostly be prevalent in a world where it were required to stick to the basics, say because there is not enough material/supplies available to be decorative( adding ruffles, printing fabrics, etc). Minimalism belongs belongs to a world of the future where resources are limited and people must make due with the basics, both in dress and at home.
Not knocking your style, just a thought ...

There's a mint leather top exactly like this that I want badly in COS at the moment, it's loads of money though so I may try your way!

At anonymous:
Yes exactly, I totally agree with you, and sadly we are currently living in a world that is running out of it's resources. These kind of thoughts and also ideas about sustainibility hang so closely with minimalistic aesthetics. I don't consider myself a real minimalist yet though(more like a wanna be minimalist who's working on towards living with less stuff) :)

What a cool idea! It looks amazing too. I just always find it hard to maintain leather. I used to own a leather top, which I didn't wear long as I didn't know how to properly clean it.

Have I told you I love your blog? If I had not told you I just did.
I truly love!
I'm sad because I do not have those materials close to me.
Your ideas give me inspiration and actually I am dead to start new things but do not know where I can get the material.
Can you help me?
Where can I buy online leather and other fabrics that make deliveries in Portugal?

Wow het is echt heel mooi, net als die rok van een paar posts hiervoor! Waar koop je al het materiaal om dit te maken? In Amsterdam?

yes it does have a celine/klein vibe to it but it looks great!
love how u did the neckline very sporty like rather than a simple top.

im a design student from CSM and might i just add that you could iron the leather on a low heat and put pattern paper in between the iron and leather to prevent melting it and ur seams would look even better rather than having the curls from the rigidity of the leather, just FYI for your DIY, lol xx

This looks fab', but your tutorial is a bit (too) minimalist... you don't explain what type of leather you used, or how do you pass your head in the collar (ahah...)

Would you acre to explain a bit much ? Thank you !
