L I F E / Why/Where I Love To Thrift

Because the world is already filled with too many clothes that can possibly all be bought.
The supply of new things has never been so much greater than the demand as it is right now.
So besides finding unique pieces that aren't in every Zara or H&M of every high street in every city,
and besides the fact that clothes that were produced before mass production and fast fashion are much better in quality
I also like to buy it to keep a clear conscience. Got these two delicious trousers; one slouchy, light grey pair in super soft leather and
one white high waisted in a geometrically textured fabric.I am extremely happy!
It's so rare to find vintage trousers with a perfect fit that don't have to be altered.
Got these at Episode in Utrecht, but usually where I find the best stuff is at the Noordermarkt.

3 Markets in Amsterdam:
_Noordermarkt /every Monday morning/ Noordermarkt square
_IJ-Hallen / every first weekend of the month/ NDSM werf, T.T. Neveritaweg 15
_Waterloo plein / daily/ Waterloo square

2nd hand is the most rewarding kind of shopping. Most of my outfits are fully 2nd hand and cost 10€, I love that so much ! I just need to go back to Amsterdam with these adresses now :)

I agree. Thrifting and DIY are great ways to add a more personal touch to ones wardrobe.

This is so true. Thrifters unite haha! Costs way less than buying firsthand, better quality, unique items, less environmental impact... everybody wins in thrifting. The hunt and the reward at the end of it is so thrilling.

Thrifting is probably one of the most frustrating yet satisfying activities that I've ever done.Unlike you, I have not found any pre-loved pants that I'd drool over so I'm definitely inspired to put more effort into it if I ever go on a vintage haul again!

I completely agree with all your reasons, especially #1. There are TOO MANY clothes in this world and not only is that bad for the environment, but for us as people - it's a byproduct of our laziness, of our lack of imagination, of our buying into consumerism and our devaluation of clothing, that we feel the need to buy the poorly made new skinny jeans at H&M that will only last a season instead of pushing our creativity to make something special of thrift store gems. Thank you for sending this message out and demonstrating it throughout your entire blog! Love you!

So many of my best pieces are vintage. I am now very careful about what I buy, trying not to buy things that wont fit into my wardrobe in reality, but still love a good thrift hunt. Love the grey leather pants.

When I lived in Amsterdam, I went to Noordermarkt EVERY week. Not just for the shopping, but for the people watching too. Great minds think alike, and everyone is always so, so chic despite how early in the morning it can be!
